Richard MacPike

joined Bennington College as the Costume Shop Manager in August of 2011. Formerly a Senior Lecturer and the Costume Shop Manager for the Department of Theatre, Film and Dance at Cornell University, Richard specializes in the area of Costume Production.  His courses routinely cover topics such as mask making, fabric painting and dyeing, millinery, and costume construction.  Interested students have pursued independent study projects with Richard exploring interests such as advanced draping and pattern making techniques, tailoring, and ballet costume construction.

 

Richard started teaching in 2001 after working as a Project Manager for Parsons-Meares, Ltd., one of NYC's prominent costume houses.  While there he managed and assisted on productions for Broadway, Feld Entertainment, and Disney.  He has also worked producing costumes for companies such as Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown NY, The Huntington Theatre Company in Boston MA, The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta GA, and the Santa Fe Opera.

 

Richard holds an MFA in Costume Design from Boston University.
